Food Photography Pi's Pizzeria in Schaumburg Illinois

By admin - Posted on 22 April 2009

Food photography, in my humble opinion, has to be the best job assignment. Today I spent the afternoon at Pi’s Pizzeria in Schaumburg. Their exact address is 245 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, Illinois, 60193. Or call ahead for delivery 847-891-6800!

During this assignment I worked closely with the restaurant owner Steve and his assistant Victor. As I set up the lights, they set up the pizza’s for baking. As we finished a photographing a pizza, they threw in another one into the pizza oven to continue the process. I photographed their green pepper and black olive pizza, a Spinach Special pizza, the Mac & Cheese pizza, the Tavern French Fry Pizza. the chicken-strip salad, and their New York cheesecake with chocolate syrup. Finally, I also took pictures of their French fries and spent some time doing some fine art photography of the ingredient used in the dishes.

So what happens to food after it spends a few minutes under the flash of the camera lights? Well, I knew one happy photographer (and her family at home) who got to take home a nice little sampling. Let’s just say that I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese people for all you kids at hear. Consensus is yes on this one! Don’t take my word for it, take a look at the food photos below. Yummy!

The staff at Pi’s Pizzeria were all super nice (both to me and to their customers). Kudos to them for exhibiting such wonderful customer’s service. Being a small pizza house, every customer is valued and is important to them. Not only to they use fine ingredient in their food, they also use fine service staff in their store. Two thumbs up Pi’s!

The owner’s of Pi’s Pizzeria have agreed to put my company logo and contact information on the bottom of their menus. That means thousands of people in the Schaumburg area will take home information about Plum Tree Studio Photography.

If you are ever in the area (near Roselle Road and Beech Drive) please visit Pi’s Pizzeria and tell them Agnes from Plum Tree Studio sent you! They will be glad to see you!

Fiber One Carb

Plum Tree Studio recommends the Fiber One Granola Chewy Bar with Oats and Chocolate!

This afternoon, during the normal post lunch tired lapse I tried the new Fiber One health bar. It was a normal day where the coffee had just left my system and the water jug wasn’t sustaining my energy. Analysis positive! The Fiber Ones Chewy Bar made of oats and chocolate was actually tasty and filled with chocolate goodness.

From a nutrition standpoint (per bar):

·       Calories 140

·       Calories from fat 35

·       Total fat 4g (6% of daily)

·       Saturated fat 1.5g (9% of daily)

·       Sodium 90mg (4% of daily)

·       Carbohydrates 29g (10% of daily)

·       Fiber 9g (35% of daily)

·       Protein 2g

·       Sugars 10g

I couldn’t believe this little bar was actually good for me. I could eat 50 of them! And high in fiber too? Wow! Talk about great idea in one happy little package of goodness. General Mills you have done it again!!!!

So why write this article on a photography blog? Why would a photographer care about healthy power bars? What would lake county, cook county, mchenry county, Illinois or even Wisconsin brides and grooms want to know about power bars?

Excellent question. Power bars are a healthy and nutritious mid afternoon snack for when the blood sugar levels go low. It is a healthy and light weight snack for mid day weddings (in your pocket or tarmac photo suitcase). When we work a 6 hour, 8 hour, and even a 12 hour wedding we are always relieved to be offered food by the bridal party. There are times, however, when we are with the bride and/or groom in the morning, go straight to pictures at the alter, rush into group photo with the bridal party, and then go straight into the reception. It could often times be hours between meals. And sometimes the only down time is the ride from the wedding ceremony to the reception hall. Thus the power bars (especially the fiber one chocolate bars) are a great way to keep the energy levels and sugar levels high. This is both good for photographers (we wouldn’t want cranky or slow moving photographers at weddings) and for brides and grooms (we need your energy up so we can stay energized.) The power bars fit easily into the pocket or suitcase (or even the brides flower bouquet) for an easy and quick mid day snack.

Just make sure you wipe away the chocolate from the side of your mouth! And say cheese!

Mr Tomato Man

By admin - Posted on 01 August 2008

So sometimes life just throws you the unexpected! True story below (or it could be)!

Just when you think you have met every weird person on the plant... a strange visitor comes to dinner. You never really know what Mother Nature will bring to your back door. She does have a sense of humor! Be ready for every visitor my friends!

The story begins in a small suburb north of Chicago, on a fine summer's eve.
A few days ago, I went outside to pick a few tomatoes from the plant garden out back. Yes, this is the garden which originated the "Spring Gangster's of 2008." The evening was calm and warm, like any other summer night, maybe a little too warm. We were making some home made salsa, and nothing is better in homemade salsa than home grown tomato's. Nothing out of the ordinary tonight, nothing that is, until I saw him.... Who you may ask? Tell us who?
Who? Well... Mr. Tomato-Man that's who!

At first he just hung there on the vine, with his little orange skin and his little green nose. I barely paid attention to him and went about my business of picking tomatoes. One tomato. Two tomato. Three tomato. Yum! My only thought was of combining my newly acquired bounty with some fresh cilantro and onions.

Then all of the sudden I heard a sneeze. A what? A sneeze? I looked around wanting to give pleasantries to whomever the early flu was surrounding. I saw no one. "How odd", I thought to myself, "no one is here". Nonetheless I continued about my business again.

Suddenly, out of the right side of the garden I heard a cheery and enthusiastic "top of the mornin' to ya lassy", spoken in a fluent Irish accent. It was as if a Irishman had landed in my backyard. I stopped for a moment and contemplated. Then I thought and thought and thought some more.
And when I finished thinking, I scrunched my eyebrow and wrinkled my nose as hard as I could and I thought some more. I didn't see anyone in the garden with me. "Hmmm" I mumbled to myself.

After a few minutes of thoughts, "Do tomato's talk?" I exclaimed loudly to no one in particular. Gosh what the neighbors must have been thinking! Here I am talking to my tomato plants. "Hey, down here missy!" And to my surprise I saw a little orange and red face popping out from underneath the tomato vines. What a lovely surprise to have a visitor for dinner, especially a noble!

"Mind if you take me inside for the evening miss, it sure does get scary out here at night and it sure does look nice and cozy in there ma'am. I'm not sure how many more nights I can hide from those backyard critters scurrying around these parts."

Well, as if the day couldn't get any weirder, I responded in my most courteous voice "but of course fine sir, a gentleman should never be outside on such a stuffy evening, you'll catch a tomato-cold". He smiled, took one more sneeze, and hoped into my hand. "Thank you young lady" he said in between yawns, and closed his eyes for an evening nap.

We made salsa that evening as planned, but with one less tomato in the batch. It tasted just fine for us!

And that, my dear friends, is how I came to know Mr. Tomato-Man. Now, maybe he wasn't really Irish and maybe he didn't really speak out loud. But you just take a look at the photos attached and tell me I am wrong. Maybe it really did happen? ;)

Happy summer everyone

P.S. These photos were taken (by me!) the next day, after his nap of course.
